World of Warcraft Microtransactions Helped Boost Activision's Profits By $536 Million
The latest quarter-end revenue report has been made public which allows us to give a dollar amount to the successes in World of Warcraft and its free-to-play battle royale sequel, Warzone. It's a staggering number, including the increase of $536million of in-game expenditures year-on-year, driven predominantly by Modern Warfare.
All in all Activision Blizzard saw an increase in the amount of in-game expenditures to $596 million when looking at the three months until June 30 to the equivalent period last year. The majority ($536 million) comes from Activision, while Blizzard reported a $19 million increase , primarily due to World of Warcraft , and King has seen a boost of $41 million thanks to The Candy Crush series.
World of Warcraft & Warzone - Season One Officially Launched Four
The report attributes the huge boost in spending to World of Warcraft, which came out in October of this year as opposed to the October 2018 release of World of Warcraft : Black Ops 4. The game also includes Warzone in that regard, the free-to-play Battle Royale spinoff, which was released in March this year. Although World of Warcraft : Mobile launched at the same time alongside Modern Warfare, the report suggests that the latter performed the bulk of the heavy lifting when it comes to microtransactions.

It's not necessarily necessary to be a bad thing. Blizzard might want to extend the time frame between expansions to collect more player feedback and work on potential content for future patches and, hopefully, shorten the period between content updates. WoW isn't required to go on the same path it's been on for the last four years. It could, ought to and, hopefully be better. Based on the history of what has transpired over the last few years the question of whether "better" is enough to make fans give WoW another shot is a completely different matter.
WoW Shadowlands: Shadowlands Final Raid Cinematic Teases An Even Bigger Thermophobia, and There's Not Much Else
A brand-new in-game film that is played at the conclusion of the final battle for World of Warcraft 's Shadowlands expansion, reveals the real motives behind Jailer's long-running goal of rewriting the world It's safe to say it has fans who are a bit disappointed.
The last three bosses for the Sepulcher of the First Ones raid unlock earlier in the day. In contrast to other raids, the final bosses of the game's latest quest were kept locked a further week, and not testable on the game's public test world. It meant that players entered the game with little knowledge of what they would encounter, leading to rampant speculation about the Jailer's future plans and what the conclusion of the raid could suggest for future expansions and so on. The solution, however, is that most players are willing to put Shadowlands behind their backs. Below are spoilers.
In the film towards the end of the battle, the Jailer, aka Zovaal, is seated defeated. He is kneeling on his knees and recalls the events that led to his exile. This includes an evocation of the moment when Primus sought out the reason for Zovaal to betray the Shadowlands and try to break the process that is the afterlife. His answer?
"A cosmos that is not united will not last through the next generation," Zovaal says defiantly. Zovaal then disappears into the present, and is replaced by a mechanical husk of his previous self. The gate to the Shadowlands above Icecrown Citadel closes. The film's final scene.

When asked in an interview in recent times in a recent interview with P2Pah, WoW production director Pat Dawson wouldn't say. Typically, when you get the first content update of an expansion is released, players already know what the next expansion will be thanks to an earlier announcement as well as the accompanying film at Blizzard's annual BlizzCon event. BlizzCon will not be held this year, likely for a variety of reasons that span from the COVID-19 cholera epidemic to ongoing discrimination and harassment investigations. There are no future expansion announcements that have been announced. There's a huge doubt hanging over Patch 9.2 and the end in the Shadowlands story.
For the first time in a long while gamers will head into the final battle of an expansion with no clue about what's next with regard to combat themselves as well as how the story will take place.
"People haven't heard about the mechanics People haven't been able to see the story," Dawson said when was asked if the latest Sepulcher of the First Ones raid would give players an idea of what the next expansion is going to be. "They aren't sure what's going to happen. It's a pretty neat moment. In the future, we're always looking to improve things. I think right now we're really focused on the end of this story and giving a satisfying conclusion to the Jailer."
A significant part of the forthcoming raid has been researched, combed through, and played-tested by the WoW community on the game's open test realm The players will go in completely green for the raid's last three bosses.
"They aren't on the PTR, there aren't a collection of mods created for it, or any strategies put into writing," Dawson said. "People aren't quite sure of what they'll be going through. There's a lot of adventure and exploration ahead at the conclusion of the raid."
To add to the feeling of insanity is the fact that players need to wait another week before they can confront the Jailer. The raid will begin to open at the beginning of March (a week after 9.2's launch on February 22nd) The final three bosses will not be available until March 8. This means that it'll be several weeks until players are able to learn the end of the story as well as the fate of characters such as that of the jailer, and Sylvanas both of the most prominent characters in Shadowlands that have caused discord within the game's communities.

In Stormwind Human leaders Genn Greymane Mathias Shaw, and Turalyon talk about the state of the Alliance as well as Shaw mentions the time skip and the fact that the King of Stormwind, Anduin, has been absent since his departure at the conclusion of Shadowlands. Turalyon, it seems, is the one who is ruling in the Alliance in his place.
The Horde the other side Blood Elf leader Lor'themar speaks with Nightborne leader Thalysrra in which they discuss how several years have gone by since the Horde's army returned from the realms of death and the relative peace that has persisted since the time. It is revealed that Lor'themar and Thalysrra were married between their adventures in Shadowlands and Dragonflight as the two fighting over who was proposing to whom. The players in the community are somewhat disappointed about not having the opportunity to attend the wedding but are excited to see the pair of Horde leaders nonetheless.
In all fairness, the time-skip isn't "official" just yet. The NPC characters from the Horde and Alliance of the Dragonflight Alpha do refer to how "several decades" have been passed since the heroes of Azeroth have returned to the Shadowlands, dialogue on the alpha is likely to change and could not make it into the live version of the game.
Whatever the case, a greater than normal gap in the game's timeline could provide a refreshing change in rate. As every WoW player can attest, having Azeroth (and often all the reality) be in danger due to a World of Warcraft -ending threat every two years when an expansion arrives adds to the storyline of the game, which can be rather silly sometimes. There has been speculation for a long time that the playing in the Shadowlands may have some time-dilation effects, but it's currently unclear if the Shadowlands directly caused the time delay or the reason is that Blizzard simply wanted to give more space for the next chapter of the game's story.

A History of World of Warcraft So FarSee MoreWoW: Wrath Of The Lich King Classic Release Date Might Have Leaked by Blizzard Official World of Warcraft : Wrath of the Lich King Classic website, for a couple of seconds, showed an unannounced launch date for the re-release of the game's popular expansion: September 26th 2022.
As reported by Wowhead The date has since been removed by Blizzard from their official website. While it could have just was an error or time-slot date, it's quite likely Wrath of the Lich King Classic will release towards October's end.
In light of the fact that WoW's next expansion game, Dragonflight, is also due to launch before 2022's expiration date This makes sense why Blizzard would want to release Wrath of the Lich King Classic in fall as opposed to the winter of this year in order to give the two games some breathing room. Wrath of the Lich King Classic is currently being tested in beta, including the expansion's initial raid, Naxxramas, having been recently made available to players to play through the test.
Though Wrath of the Lich King Classic will run on the expansion's final major patch that added features such as the automated dungeon finder, there will be a few changes. In the beginning, the automated tools for finding dungeons won't be available. Another key feature added in the original expansion that was a quest tracking tool, was also announced not to be included. However, Blizzard claims to have since "changed its thoughts" regarding the feature.
As a departure from the original version the game, players will be able to create their first Deathknight character without needing to have an existing level-55 character on the same server (though this requirement will be in place for Deathknights who are created over the first). Deathknights can be played during the game's initial patch, that is scheduled to arrive just a few weeks prior to the launch of the expansion. When the pre-patch is released the existing Burning Crusade Classic servers will change into Wrath of the Lich King Classic servers. Pre-patch also brings an increase of 50% in XP occasion, which should help players level up their characters or getting them set for the game's new expansion content a little simpler.
