Get ready for the cloud distributed on the edge

The Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) use cases are already generating large amounts of data on the edge - on mobile devices, buildings, farms, etc.

According to a recent survey by Frost & Sullivan , by 2022, 90% of industries will use cutting-edge computing and, with the advancement of 5G implementation, we will see so much data generated at the edge that transporting it to centralized processing centers will no longer do in terms of network performance or cost.

5G will also be the foundation of smart cities, autonomous vehicles, major advances in industry and logistics, and more. This will lead to exponential growth in machine-to-machine (M2M) communication.

According to data from Cisco , by 2023 there will be 14.7 billion M2M connections in the world, comprising half of the connected devices and global connections. The importance of this is that, even with consumer applications tolerating latency well over 20 milliseconds (ms), most M2M applications require latency of less than 20 ms.

For this to happen, computing and data storage need to be closer to users. We are seeing two closely related trends coming together to overcome this challenge: edge computing and distributed cloud.

Edge computing
The term Empowered Edge was named by Gartner in Article 10 main trends in strategic technology for 2020 . Edge computing is a topology in which information processing and the collection and delivery of content are placed closer to the information sources, considering that maintaining local and distributed traffic will reduce latency.

In the past, all information collected by devices such as smartphones or industrial equipment had to go “backhaul” to a centralized processing location.

Dell SonicWall Support Engineers must have the analytical skills to determine the right course of action to resolve issues, such as encrypted threats and ransomware attacks. They provide both team members and clients the status of the problems and the plan of action they will undertake. The position requires a customer-oriented mindset at all times.
