There was the option to either keep your character's vanilla realms , which Wow TBC gold is Naxx or to move your character through Dark Portal to the TBC expansion.

TBC is the default setting for the majority of players because there's nothing new in the vanilla.

I absolutely loved the game until WotLK and am considering changing my mind about retail and opting for Classic or Classic TBC. I am unsure about how Classic TBC works. If I create a Classic TBC character, does this mean that I won't be able to use it in Classic TBC content. If I create a Classic TBC character and they released Classic WotLK will I not be able to use the character for Classic WotLK content? I'm unable to comprehend the development through the various classic games , and would appreciate it if someone could help to clarify the confusion for me.

Current classic server is classic age. It's deliberately stuck on the Naxx patches. TBC is a progression server which is in phase 2 with T5 content released. Though it's still not publicized, we'll surely progress to Wrath in the near future from TBC.

TBC Classic Era (Vanilla) and TBC Classic Era are currently available. They are two different clients. You are not able to create characters with either. The version you're currently using is the one was the first one you tried.

The initial transition from Vanilla -> TBC was handled by letting them changed the "Classic" client to TBC and then added "Classic Era" as an option for downloading. Every character was copied to "Classic Era", both the "current" version of the character and the "Classic Era" version were turned off. Then, you had to choose which copy to activate which would lock you out of the other (the vast majority of users were able to activate the TBC version).

Imagine Warcraft's name. We haven't seen much of it either in vanilla or TBC. There aren't a lot of other options that aren't wars between hordes or alliance.
