World of Warcraft : Legion was made public on Gamescom in August of this year. The expansion will raise the level cap from 110 to 110. It will also introduce a brand new class called the Demon Hunter. Legion will include a variety of new content . This includes the creation of a new continent called The Broken Isles, new artifact weapons that are customizable, as well as new levels and dungeons. The expansion will also overhaul the player-versus-player progression system.

World of Warcraft Microtransactions Helped Boost Activision's Profits By $536 Million

The latest quarter-end revenue report has been made public which allows us to give a dollar amount to the successes in World of Warcraft and its free-to-play battle royale sequel, Warzone. It's a staggering number, including the increase of $536million of in-game expenditures year-on-year, driven predominantly by Modern Warfare.

All in all Activision Blizzard saw an increase in the amount of in-game expenditures to $596 million when looking at the three months until June 30 to the equivalent period last year. The majority ($536 million) comes from Activision, while Blizzard reported a $19 million increase , primarily due to World of Warcraft , and King has seen a boost of $41 million thanks to The Candy Crush series.

The report attributes the huge boost in spending to World of Warcraft, which came out in October of this year as opposed to the October 2018 release of World of Warcraft : Black Ops 4. The game also includes Warzone in that regard, the free-to-play Battle Royale spinoff, which was released in March this year. Although World of Warcraft : Mobile launched at the same time alongside Modern Warfare, the report suggests that the latter performed the bulk of the heavy lifting when it comes to microtransactions.
