Wemo Media and animators’ team that worked on Avatar and Tron are working on the virtual ocean project theBlu

The Wemo Media company has partnered with top animators that worked on the movies Avatar and Tron for a new project called theBlu. The project idea is the creation of virtual ocean environment with all animals, plants and other representatives of underwater kingdom. All this can be called "Animated Wikipedia". Developers’ plans are simply grandiose: theBlu will include the entire Pacific Ocean with all elements of the ocean floor, as well as the entire ecosystem.

theBlu is not just some information in a graphical display. This is a social network and service that helps to gain knowledge about the underwater environment. According to the developers, the main objective of the project is to provide the opportunity to study the ocean for everyone. A user could move through the virtual ocean and explore peculiarities of its floor or study certain types of animals and plants. In order to learn something new about the fish that is swimming by, for example: just click on it, and there will appear the needed information.

According to the initiators of the project, presently there are a few people that understand what is actually happening in the ocean. Therefore, this project can serve as a good educational tool and service that will help to learn more about the ocean, as well to get familiar with the underwater life.

The video is below:

Now the project has 60 animal species and plants, and scientists have classified 380 000 thousand species of living organisms in the Pacific Ocean. Before a newly created form is placed in a virtual ocean, the correctness of its description and appearance are carefully checked, so the ocean will not have "pink elephants".

The virtual diving is free for all users, but the project also has some elements for a fee. For example, a fish can be purchased that user likes the most. The money is divided between the creator of the virtual fish and the system itself. In addition, a variety of music can be purchased that is available in the project. The creators are selling quiet melodies that can help a person relax, while user enjoys the views of the ocean.

The project itself is based on Unity 3D and is placed on Amazon EC2 cloud.
